San Francisco "Rugged Elegance" San Francisco Style ... Discovered within the City's Thirty-Two Neighborhoods & Surrounding Northern California Area

Jennifer Carolyn King

Jennifer has been an entrepreneur since she was eight years old. For twenty years, it has been her dream to create Rugged Elegance. Originally intended to be "one of the first mail order catalogs," today she is focused on building content and community for like-minded people who share her healthy, adventuresome, soulful spirit.

Jennifer's greatest passion in business is promoting people who, either through science or artistic expression, are striving to add value to our community and the world.

In 1993, she discovered that Mosaic - which became the key driver for the World Wide Web - was an ideal platform from which to build an online community for the life sciences industry. In March 1995, she and her partner, Timothy Fredel launched BioSpace.com. Today the leading hubsite for the life sciences industry attracts over one million visitors per month who are looking for news, investment, clinical trials information, or a job.

"The most rewarding aspect of creating BioSpace was when people would stand in line at a conference just to say "I want you to know that I start every work day going to BioSpace," or "thanks to you I found my job through BioSpace."

Personally, Jennifer dreams of building a business her two daughters will be proud of. Altruistically, she looks forward to being able to give back to the world in part through Thrive Foundation for Youth.

As the Rugged Elegance community around the world begins to form, Jennifer looks forward to being stopped in the street by members who tell her that "thanks to Rugged Elegance we had the best vacation of their lives," or "we found our home through Rugged Elegance," or "we have met some of our best friends as a result of what you've created." Or best of all, "The Rugged Elegance Inspiration Network has inspired us, so much so that we are inspiring others to become healthier, more adventuresome, and soulful in their own way."
