Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom
Last Friday night, the United Irish Cultural Center crowned San Francisco's First Lady, Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom, "Woman of the Year."
Guilfoyle Newsom is a commentator with ABC’s Good Morning America and CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 (previously called Live from the Headlines). She regularly appears on the program's segment Justice Served that starts 7:25 pm EST daily.
The prosecutor also serves as the co-host of Court TV's Both Sides, a daily trial coverage program that airs Monday through Friday from 1pm-3pm ET/PT.
Kimberly is a former San Francisco Assistant District Attorney and a former Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney. She is the daughter of a Puerto Rican father and an Irish mother. And she is Mayor Gavin Newsom's wife.
Earlier this month, Guilfoyle Newsom appeared with her husband in Harper's Bazaar Magazine. (See separate story in: RE: San Francisco)
Guilfoyle Newsom lives in New York City and San Francisco.
Despite an 11-hour flight from New York City last Friday, Kimberly arrived fresh to the Irish Cultural Center's event.
Her speech was touted as gracious, down-to-earth, grateful and funny.
In person, she is a star.
On television, she's a tiger.
Last night watching Larry King Live she was intense and aggressive talking about Scott Peterson's trial.
I never watch these types of shows, but Kimberly is one of the most sought after women based on Rugged Elegant Living search queries.
(In addition to Guilfoyle Newsom, some of the top names include: Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins, jazz vocalist and songwriter Joss Stone, Marilyn Monroe and Olympian Amanda Beard. After Kimberly are: Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Kate Hudson, Sharon Stone, Maria Sharapova...)
As a result, I was compelled to find out what it is about her that everyone is attracted to.
Having met her a number of times in person, she has the presence of an unpretentious, approachable celebrity.
As a legal correspondent, watch out!
Philanthropically, Guilfoyle Newsom is very, very active.
Friend and PlumpJack Group's former Director of Marketing & Events, Pamela Cinci says:
Kimberly is one of the most loyal people I have ever met. She is dedicated to every relationship she forges, and somehow manages to juggle all of the people and responsibilities she has in her very full life. Kimberly is one
of those women who truly cares about being a woman and helping others to
aspire to be all they can be.
A number of the organizations Kimberly has put her name behind include the:
* Little Jim Club of the California Pacific Medical Center - Children’s Pediatrics Programs
* Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
* Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America
* Chicana Latina Foundation
* San Francisco Zoo
* St. Anthony's Dining Room
* St. Boniface School
* Tall Ship Semester for Girls
* Peninsula Humane Society
* Northern California Cancer Center - having lost her mother-in-law to breast cancer
* AIDS Service Organization called Continuum
Guilfoyle Newsom is a mentor to young, urban high school girls through the GirlSource organization in the Mission District and serves on the advisory board.
She also mentors through YWCA for girls ages six through fourteen.
Guilfoyle Newsom has regularly served as a panelist at the UCSF Hospital's Young Women's Health Conference in San Francisco.
She is an active member in the San Francisco Women’s Political Caucus, the California District Attorneys Association, the American Bar Association and La Raza Lawyers Association.
She said, "I was taught to work hard and to do the right thing, and as I realized the possibilities for my life, I also realized how many people needed encouragement and support - that is why I find the time to help too."
How she finds time for her husband, given her weekly coast-to-coast travel schedule alone, is worth an award in-and-of-itself.
Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful and finding-time-for-your-man living!
