The next few weeks in San Francisco smell and taste sweet thanks to natural perfumer Mandy Aftel and haute cuisine chef Daniel Patterson.

First up, Aftel and Patterson will make appearances and discuss their new cookbook, Aroma: The Magic of Essential Oils in Food & Fragrance at Book Passage's Ferry Building location on Saturday, September 11th at 1:30 p.m.

Besides recipes, Aroma also includes tips for using essential oils in everyday cooking.

It is Aftel's infusion of aromas and Patterson's flavors that make this cookbook collaboration published by Artisan Publishers (August 1, 2004) a winner.

Aftel, owner of Aftelier Perfumes, custom designs one-of-a-kind blends for individuals, and formulates fragrances for private labels.

Aftel, who has been nicknamed "Best Scent" by people in the press, is also the author of Essence and Alchemy: A Book of Perfume (North Point Press 2001).

This is Patterson's first foray into the book world.

Patterson, former chef-owner of Elisabeth Daniel, is now chef-owner of the new Frisson restaurant in San Francisco, which opened this summer.

Next, on September 15th from 6-9pm, Tre Balm -- Presidio Heights' European boutique for skin body and home -- is hosting a cocktail gathering and book signing reception for Aftel.

Fragrant Nibbles will be provided by Frisson. Aroma-infused cocktails will be provided by Belvedere Vodka.

Wild Salmon With Marinated Cucumbers
American-like Lavender Roasted Chicken

In the July 2004 issue of O Magazine it was reported "We sense the arrival of a new total body experience."
