If you're looking to join in the St. Patty's Day fun in San Francisco, we can recommend two Rugged Elegance Places of Taste to eat and one shop in Union Square, Irish comfort food in Jackson Square, and two terrific restaurants run by Irishmen in North Beach:
In Union Square, the place to be is:
The Irish Bank Bar & Restaurant
Johnny Foley's Irish House
For those who have yet to find the right attire, Margaret O'Leary on Claude Lane in Union Square is just the place to get outfitted in Irish green.
Yesterday, a new line of sportwear arrived including a pinstripe and flower cotton shirt - made in San Francisco - for $150.
When the sun goes down, Margaret has a green cotton knit poncho for $165 or a pre-washed Phantom jacket in sage for $230. The jacket has a matching "Sensation" paneled skirt that is frayed at the bottom. Both the jacket and the skirt also available in a "rice" color.
Teresa, Margaret's sister, is in the Union Square shop, ready to outfit you in the right shade of green.
In Jackson Square (a hop, skip & a jump from The Financial District) is Kells, one of the best places for Irish comfort food in the city.
In North Beach, we recommend:
O'Reilly's Irish Pub & Restaurant
O'Reilly's is located on Green Street between Columbus and Powell. Nearly the entire block will be closed off today. The outdoor seating has been extended. Their music and Irish dancers will begin performing at 4 o'clock. Different bands are scheduled to play until 10pm.
Myles O'Reilly, an Irish icon in the neighborhood, will be there all day serving beer and good food.
Moose's
Moose's St. Patty's Day party begins at 11:30 today. While the name Moose doesn't give away the Irish ties, Mr. Moose is as Irish as they come.
Across from Washington Park in the heart of North Beach, Moose's will be serving lunch beginning at 11:30 and dinner until 10:30 tonight.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
We look forward to dancing in the moonlight at O'Reilly's tonight.
We hope you have the luck of the Irish with you all day long.
Inspire & Be Inspired (tm).
