Oakland California's LaToya London -- American Idol Top Twelve Finalist?

LaToya.London.American.Idol.3.jpg

25 year-old, LaToya London rocked the house on Tuesday night. The last performer of eight to sing in front of American Idol judges, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell, along with a small live audience, and over 30 million Americans, her Eric Carmen song All By Myself stole the show.

Last night, dressed in an all-white, sophisticated pantsuit, LaToya stood out all by herself, as the frontrunner in the third round of Fox's semifinals.

Randy and Paula gave her a standing ovation, along with her mother, uncle and everyone in the house including those in this house here in San Francisco.

LaToya's Oakland, California roots, and her jazz singing Aunt Zorina London provided LaToya with the inspiration to sing. She says "From the time I was a baby, I would watch my aunt perform all over the Bay Area." San Francisco's last mayor, Willie Brown calls Zorina his "favorite singer." Godfather of soul, James Brown adopted her after she became his lead back-up vocalist and dancer. Needless to say, LaToya's got good genes.

LaToya made her singing debut at the age of 7 at her mother's wedding. In her teens, she sang in the Oakland Youth Chorus. Today, she lives in Southern California where she is studying music.

On her fan site, at LatoyaLondonFanSite.com, 99.12% of 8118 online votes were convinced she won America's vote, last night.

Among the youth and the male influence in this household, the other performer who got our vote: Jon Peter Lewis, Simon's pen salesman. We all agreed that he was the best at engaging the crowd last night.

Quoting from his fan site at JonPeterLewis.com, he won our hearts with his "cute church clothes, his shy, sleepy, church boy turned funky white boy appearance, and of course, his voice."

The other two favorites of the eight:

Amy Adams from Bakersfield, California
Leah LaBelle from Seattle, Washington

Our only disagreement with the judges was when Simon described Leah. He said, "You were like a beautiful designer dress that when taken home it has a rip in it." Perhaps a better analogy is she's like a fabulous designer dress that has all the makings for greatness; it's just not finished yet.

Last night, the eight semi-finalists and the songs they performed were:

Elizabeth LeTendre - Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody

Eric Yoder - The Five Satins' In The Still of the Night

Amy Adams - Celine Dion's Power of Love

Jon Peter Lewis - Elton John's Tiny Dancer

Charly Lowry - Aretha Franklin's Chain of Fools

Jonah Moananu - Carl Thomas' I Wish

Leah LaBelle Vladowski - Whitney Houston's I Have Nothing

LaToya London - Eric Carmen's All By Myself

Check out who goes on and who goes home tonight on Fox at 8:30 pm / 7:30 central (Channels 2 and 40 in the Bay Area).
