In an article in today's New York Times, Martin Forstenzer tells enterprising art buyers that they can now find including limited-edition lithographs by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall and Joan Miró at Costco.com.
Greg Moors, a San Francisco art dealer, has partnered with Costco to bring fine art to the warehouse retailer's web site. Moors, 49, previously worked for the fine-art chains Martin Lawrence Galleries and Circle Fine Art and briefly operated his own San Francisco gallery, which he said he had closed because of high overhead. He acquires the art he sells through Costco one piece at a time from dealers, collectors and other sources. Quoted in the article he says, "I'm trying to find wonderful works of art that are of a high quality that you don't have to refinance your home to buy."
In addition to the Picassos, Chagalls and Mirós, Costco has sold limestone lithographs by Henri Matisse, Max Ernst, Jacques Villon and other artists, and an original etching by Pierre Bonnard. Mr. Moors now plans to sell original oil paintings by lesser-known modern artists, like Pascal Cucaro and Geneve Sargent, on the Web site. To find art currently available follow this link or go to Costco.com and search on "fine art."
Costco guarantees the authenticity and condition of the art and will accept returns.

The date on the charcoal is 1948, not 42. I have given it to Montgomery College, as a donated item for their upcoming online auction with www.cmarket.com. If anyone is interested in purchase, either email me or search for the Montgomery College Arts Stars Awards auction in mid September, 05.

I have a beautiful charcoal of a young woman, 1942, who has similar features of Maria, his Pat Cucaro's wife. Does anyone know how to contact her so I can send her a photo/image of the drawing? I have an email ready to forward to anyone interested. Thank you. Faith
