Alcatraz Fire Engine Back On Duty

alcatraz.fire.engine.jpg
San Francisco Chronicle:

A relic of the days when Alcatraz was the most feared prison in the United States came back to the Rock on Tuesday like an artifact from a vanished era.

It is a Diamond T fire truck, as bright and shiny as the day it was brought to the new Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary in 1934.

"It looks better than new," said San Francisco Fire Chief Mario Trevino, the truck's honorary driver. He then turned a gold plated key, fired up the 130 horsepower Hercules engine and very gingerly drove the truck from a movable cargo ramp onto the island.
