Anti-Viral Drug Does Not Work Against SARS The good news is that scientists believe that they have specifically identified the virus that causes SARS. The bad news is that the anti-viral drug, Ribavirin, did not work to kill the virus in a petri dish. Ribavirin was believed by many to be the #1 choice to combat SARS in humans. -Tim

According to a story published in the BBC News, SARS 'is mutant cold virus'. The most authoritative study yet identifies sars as a mutant form of the virus which causes the common cold. Scientists have suggested the virus, for which there is no known cure, is here to stay and may never be eradicated in some regions. Sobering news.

Here's a frightening story from today's New York Times:
Carrier of New Virus Made 7 Flights Before Treatment. Health officials announced that a man infected with a new respiratory disease, SARS, had flown to cities in Asia and Europe before entering a hospital. As much as I don't want to believe it, I'm beginning to think that SARS is here to stay.
