An East Lothian schoolgirl has become the youngest ever person in Scotland to win her private pilot licence.

The fifth-year-pupil became Scotland’s joint-youngest person in the country to fly solo last year.

Now the teenager has won her full licence just days before she turns 17 - although she won’t be able to use it until her birthday.

When Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa set out this past spring to set an Everest speed ascent record, little did anyone know he would not only break the late Babu Chirri Sherpa's Everest speed ascent record of 16 hrs 56, but shatter it altogether with a time of 10 hrs 56 min and 46 sec -- 6 hours faster than Babu's seemingly unbeatable record.

As one of the first women to attend Dartmouth College, actress Meryl Streep had some words of femine wisdom today for graduates of the University of New Hampshire.

Attending a drama class about 30 years ago, she said she was one of 60 intrepid women on a campus of about six thousand men. She noted that today's U-N-H graduating class is two-to-one women. She said the challenge now for women is the glass ceiling that holds many back from top positions in business and politics.

Nisha Sharma, who rejected her groom's dowry demands and had him arrested, has become India's new overnight sensation.

According to the bride's family, the dowry of two televisions, two home theater sets, two refrigerators, two air-conditioners and one car was considered to be too cheap by the groom's family. With the wedding about to start, the groom's family wanted an additional $25,000 in rupees, now, under the wedding tent. A fight between the families erupted and Nisha put her foot down by calling the police and calling off the wedding.

Sounds like the makings for a blockbuster movie. I say, "You go girl!"
