Emerging Field Predicts Drug Reactions In Patients

Pharmacogenetics -- the science of predicting drug reactions by measuring individual genetic differences -- is an emerging field that shows promise for predicting who will benefit from specific drug treatments. This is critical as prescription drugs cause 137,000 deaths a year in U.S. hospitals, making adverse drug reactions the fourth leading cause of death.
