New Use For Toothpaste Ingredient -- Preventing Urinary Catheter Infections

BBC News:

Scientists have discovered an ingredient used in toothpaste can stop infections in patients who need urinary catheters.

About 400 million catheters are used every year across the world and people who use them for a month or more can expect to suffer an infection.

But experts at Cardiff University have discovered that using a chemical called triclosan - which is used in toothpaste - during the fitting of a catheter can keep the infection at bay.
