JCK's Five-Week Food Diary - Fall 2002 Day Four 5:30 a.m. Ate 1/2 a Zone bar. I find the yogurt covered Strawberry Zone bars congest my throat when I run (maybe a lactose intolerance thing). The Apple Cinnamon bars don't have the coating and so don't have that effect. 6-7:00 a.m. Drank a 12 oz. bottle of water. Great lower body work-out. What a sunrise to boot! The lighting on the bridge and Marin headlands were magical as the color shifted from midnight blue, to a red glow. I think we all had the same thought, "This is such a bonus!" 8:30 a.m. Breakfast: 1 cup of slow-cooked Quaker Oats oatmeal, 1/2 cup of milk. 11:30 a.m. Morning Snack: Chocolate Mint Zone bar (based on my lean body mass I know I'm supposed to have just a 1/2 bar at snacks) Yah, right! How about when they start making them in 1 block sizes. (Sounds like a business opportunity to me. What do you think of the name PRIMAL SOURCE; in the form of milk duds or chickletts? You didn't think I was serious, did you?) 1:30 p.m. Lunch: Got out the California rolls I bought at Trader Joe's. In the past, I'd eat all 8 of them for lunch. Can you believe only three covers the amt. of carbs required to keep me "in balance?" Boy, was that an eyeopener. 4 oz. of turkey and a little cheese gave me the protein and the little bit of additional fat I needed. 8 oz. of water. 3:30 p.m. Afternoon Snack: My favorite yogurt concoction: 1/4 cup plain, 1/4 cup vanilla yogurt (snack size), a sprinkle of sliced almonds, and green grapes. 6:00 p.m. Dinner: Had a glass of Chardonnay, a glass of water, and a handful of mixed nuts while perusing Ralph Lauren's Private Pre-Holiday Sale. So much for a balanced dinner. 8:00 p.m. Evening Snack: My favorite yogurt concoction: 1/2 plain, 1/2 vanilla yogurt (snack size), a sprinkle of sliced almonds, and green grapes. 1 glass of water. Comments: Yahoo; tomorrow's Friday! |

Tim's Comments Pre-Workout Snack Perfect. Breakfast Where's the protein?! Morning Snack Fine, but about an hour late. Lunch Great job on the lunch. Afternoon Snack Excellent snack. Dinner Actually, these are reasonable choices given the circumstances. The nuts are a great source of protein and unsaturated fat. One glass of wine is fine. Evening Snack Good job. Overall Comments Getting better. Jennifer needs to identify breakfast protein that will work for her. Low-fat cottage cheese is a breakfast staple for me, but Jennifer doesn't consider it a breakfast food. We need to work on that one. |
