Rocky VI Could Be A Contender: Sylvester Stallone Brings Balboa Out of Retirement & Back Into The Ring
Academy award-nominated actor and writer, Sylvester Stallone has taken a beating five times as Rocky Balboa in his wildly successful boxing films. On October 16th, 2005, Stallone, Columbia Pictures, Revolution Studios and the original distributor MGM, announced the Rocky character is being brought back to life for a sixth time. The title of the film? "Rocky Balboa".
On Saturday evening at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Stallone co-produced the real-live boxing matches called The Contender. During the ESPN Reality-TV show, Stallone spoke about being stopped in the street by people who would want him to put his dukes up and challenge them. Now, they can see him on the big screen, once again.
The star of Rocky VI? Fifty-nine year-old Sylvester Stallone, aka The Italian Stallion, of course.
Stallone's story, this time, will be about the legendary Philadelphia boxing champion Rocky Balboa, who comes out of retirement.
Watch out reigning heavyweight champion, Mason "The Line" Dixon.
November 16th marks fifteen years since the release of Rocky V co-starring Stallone and Talia Shire.
The Rocky V DVD was released just this past February.
The first Rocky was released January 1st, 1976.
Rocky II came out June 15, 1979.
Rocky III hit the big screen on May 28, 1982.
And the theatrical release date of Rocky IV took place on November 27th, 1985.
Stallone will write, direct and act the part of the retired Balboa, "one last time".
In this sixth "Rocky" film, Balboa will be challenged by a powerful new champion. He will be challenged by personal tragedy. And he ultimately will be challenged by himself.
It's also about climbing the impossible mountain, if that's what you're driven to do.
Stallone said, in this case, it's not about "winning" but going back into the ring just to compete.
He said:
I am drawing on a lot of my feelings that are in sync with many people's feelings about facing the last chapter of their lives and how they want it to be written.

Dan Taylor, President of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, stated:
We're convinced the Rocky franchise is as strong as ever, with a whole new generation of filmgoers ready to be introduced and an established fan base eager to be reacquainted with this iconic character.
We felt it was the perfect first film to be green lit under the 'new' MGM.
The film is "about self-examination, an opportunity to see what kind of person he is and act on it," Taylor said.
The film, which will begin shooting toward the end of 2005 or early 2006, will be produced by Charles Winkler, William Chartoff and David Winkler.
Supporting actors will include Burt Young, who played Adrian's brother and Rocky's buddy, Paulie.
Former heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver has reportedly been talking with the film's producers to play the part of Rocky's nemesis, Dixon.
Composer Bill Conti, known best to Rocky's fans for his famous anthem, "Gonna Fly Now," has also joined the production team.
Talia Shire is not expected to make an "in spirit" return appearance.
The movie will be shot in Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, a fourth Rambo film is expected to be released in September 2006. Stallone plans to reprise his role as John Rambo. He has also written the screenplay for this film.
In addition, Stallone has been busy building a health magazine business and low-carb, high protein health shake called the INSTONE Intake Performance Shake. Tim and I were inspired by Stallone and his wife, Jennifer last spring, so we gave their product a try. Now that we're working out with a trainer again, we may head back to GNC and give it the one-two punch.
Do you suppose we'll see Rocky drinking INSTONE while training?
Inspire & Be Inspired.
Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful, "getting back on your horse or in your own ring of life" living!
