The Arkansas 18: Cheaper By The Dozen & A Half

Duggar.Family.of.18.jpg

"Sweet 16" is not Michelle Duggar's age. It's the number of children she has given birth to with her husband, Jim Bob. The Duggars' sixteenth child was born on October 11th at St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers Arkansas. The baby's name is Johannah Faith.

Johannah joins fifteen siblings who share at least three things in common: The same mom, the same dad, and a name that begins with "J."

Jim Bob and Michelle's children include two sets of twins.

John David and Janna are fifteen. Jeremiah and Jedidah are six.

The Duggar's other kids are:

Joshua, 17;
Jill, 14;
Jessa, 12;
Jinger, 11;
Joseph, 10;
Josiah, 9;
Joy-Anna, 8;
Jason, 5;
James, 4;
Justin, 2;
Jackson Levi, 1.

The family was especially excited when they got the news that they had a new baby sister. It was the first girl born to the family in eight years.

Mama Michelle, now thirty-nine, had her first child at the age of twenty-one, four years after she and Jim Bob married.

The Discovery Health Channel filmed Johannah's birth and plans to air a show about the family in May 2006.

Evidently, all of the kids are home schooled on the family compound.

In addition to being in the baby-making business, Mr. Duggar is into real estate.

The forty-year-old former state representative also remains interested in politics. While Jim Bob lost his bid for the U.S. Senate, he is considering running again next year.

Meanwhile, his wife is already considering having a seventeenth child.

The Learning Channel is doing another show about the family's construction project, a 7,000-square foot house that should be finished before Christmas.

The home, which the family from the northwest Arkansas town of Rogers has been building for two years, will have nine bathrooms, dormitory-style bedrooms for the girls and boys, a commercial kitchen, four washing machines and four dryers.

Do you suppose they start every morning singing Sister Sledge's We Are Family?

Tim's father grew up in a family of thirteen kids, and he turned out better than alright. His brother, John, earned a Silver Star Medal for his efforts during World War II.

Back in those days, there was an economic advantage to being able to put so many kids to work on the farm in Wisconsin.

In a telephone interview, Jim Bob said:

We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them.

If the Duggar kids all marry when they grow up and each have three children of their own, Jim Bob and Michelle would end up with an extended family of nearly 100.

Should Jim Bob not been elected to the Senate by then, perhaps he could simply start a town of his own. He could be the mayor of Duggar Town. Or perhaps they would call it "J"Ville - not to be confused with Jacksonville, Florida.

Sounds like the making of a second Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Piper Perabo, Tom Welling and Hilary Duff sequel to me!

First came the film Cheaper By The Dozen directed by Shawn Levy.

Then comes Cheaper By The Dozen 2 -- in theaters on December 21st. This upcoming movie is directed by Adam Shankman (The Pacifier).

Next up could be Cheaper By The Dozen & A Half.

Inspire & Be Inspired.

Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful, "finding the funny in every story" living!
