The LifeGem is a certified, high-quality diamond created from the carbon of one's loved one as a memorial to their unique life.

The company uses intensely hot ovens to turn ashes to graphite. They then press the stone into blue and yellow diamonds.

The cost to keep your gem of a mom close to you after she passes away?

$2,700 to $20,000 USD.

If mom or grandma requested having her ashes scattered out at sea, you can still fulfill that request and have her ashes turned into a dozen gems. If all her ashes were used, as many as twenty diamonds could be created.

Dean VandenBiesen, vice president of operations for LifeGem, said:

So far, nobody's ordered more than 11 diamonds.

VandenBiesen added that for those who do choose to immortalize their loved ones in jewelry, the experience is extremely positive.
