The official announcement took place at the Grand Palais, built for the 1900 world exhibition, and was tied to a Christian Dior fashion show.
Stone is said to have evoked the history of the house's founder, Christian Dior, who would have been 100 years old this year.
Dior died in 1957.
Today, Dior belongs to the luxury goods group, LVMH.

Stone said at a news conference:
Mr. Dior had a vision.
He knew what taste was, he knew what style was.
And he knew what made a woman pretty.
And I don't think that's changed from (then) till now.
I think when we think about Dior, we think 'pretty'.
Meanwhile, earlier on Tuesday, October 4th, Stone came to model Kate Moss' defense.
Last week, Britain's Burberry and Swedish-based Hennes and Mauritz severed ties with the model after Moss was accused of using cocaine. She has since checked into a rehab clinic in Arizona.
In Paris, Stone said about Moss:
I'd like to say as for Kate Moss, I understand that she has apologized and is changing her life.
And I think that that is the most important thing that's happened.
Whether or not a house stands with her or not through it says more about the house than it does about her.
Because someone who doesn't allow someone to fail and change and grow -- it doesn't say very much about them, in my opinion.
If you are in here and haven't made a mistake, I'd like to meet you because I've been waiting for Jesus - and today would be the day.

RFK Movie Starring Demi Moore & Sharon Stone
Demi Moore and Sharon Stone's beautiful faces will be seen in Versace and Dior ads.
Next year, their talent will be seen together in an upcoming fact-and-fiction-movie about Bobby Kennedy.
The RFK drama written and directed by Emilio Estevez will include Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Elijah Wood, Nick Cannon, Freddy Rodriguez and Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Estevez said:
In 2000, I found myself at the Ambassador Hotel for a photo shoot with my brother (Charlie Sheen), and I remember calling Roger going, 'I think I found it. I'm not sure what the story is, but I think it's going to be about the day Bobby Kennedy was shot.'
I started to do the research and started writing.
I finished it about a week before 9/11.
I met Bobby when he was running for the Senate in 1967, and he was campaigning down the street from where we lived in New York.
My father was doing some work on his campaign and took me down to this police precinct where they were campaigning. I was on his shoulders, and Bobby leaned out and shook my hands.
I remember the morning he was shot, I woke up my father and told him the news. And the first stop we made when we moved to L.A. in 1969 was the Ambassador Hotel.
Sharon, who recently completed "Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction," has signed on to play the wife of the hotel manager who works in the hotel's beauty salon.
Elijah Wood's character will marry a girl in order to change his draft classification.
Freddy Rodriguez' role is as a hotel busboy.
Nick Cannon will play a Youth for Kennedy volunteer.
Hopkins will be the hotel's doorman, and Moore will portray a lounge singer.
Shooting is expected to begin in two-and-a-half weeks.
Bold Films is financing and producing the less than $10 million all-star film.
