Here's a first. Made in Australia, no less. Not Napa Valley. Or France. Or Italy.
You've heard of Lawrence Kasdan's film The Big Chill.
Now, direct from Australia, Jacob Creek's is bringing you The Perfect Chill. It's not a movie, however. It's a wine.
Australian winemaker Jacob's Creek announced last week that they have become the first to introduce temperature-sensitive labels.
The labels are currently designed to indicate when their sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir, their Sparkling Rose and their Shiraz Rose is perfectly chilled.
The Perfect Chill
Owner Pernod Ricard recruited a team of scientists to use thermochromic technology to come up with the innovative design.
When the bottle reaches the 8.2 degrees Celsius (46.76 degrees Fahrenheit) mark, the label will read "Perfectly Chilled".
Will Patten, Pernod Ricard director, said:
This new initiative provides the on-trade with an opportunity to really drive the perfect serve of wine.
The design is currently undergoing trials with the Young and Classic Locals division of the Spirit Group.
Marketing manager, Susan Mills, said:
Spirit Group is very excited to work with Jacob's Creek on this new initiative.
Ensuring the perfect serve of wine for our customers is of utmost importance to us.
Three Jacob's Creek wines are "labeled" for the proper temperature for drinking: their Chardonnay Pinot Noir, Sparkling Rose or Shiraz Rose.
Jacob's Creek has an initiative-in-the-works that will run alongside a national advertising and sampling campaign. Their initiative will reinforce the brand's New World image and encourage trial.
Last year, Jacob's Creek wine was named a 'hot brand' in the United States for the fifth year straight.
In addition, at the San Francisco International Wine Competition last month one of ten "Best of Nation" awards went to Jacob's Creek Wines of Australia.
Other winners in this category included:
Septima, Argentina;
Peterlongo, Brazil;
Casa Lapostolle, Chile;
Moet & Chandon, France;
Reh Kendermann, Germany;
Framingham Wine Company, New Zealand;
Cortes de Cima, Portugal;
L'Avenir Estate Farm, South Africa and
Bodegas Montecillo, Spain.
It looks like Jacob's Creek is on a roll.
According to AC Nielsen Jacob's Creek's has the highest consumer awareness of any wine brand, at 96%.
It is also a favorite at the Wimbledon Championships where over 80,000 glasses of Jacob's Creek are poured each year.

Jacob's Creek is considered the top selling bottled wine brand in both Australia and the United Kingdom.
The original winery was built not built by Jacob, but by Johann Gramp on the banks of Jacob's Creek in 1847. Just down stream is the state of the art visitor center located in Rowland Flat, one-hour from Adelaide.
Inspire & Be Inspired.
Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful, "achieving the perfect chill" living!
