Rugged Elegant Photo of The Day: Egypt's Most Beautiful Mummy

Cairo.Tut.Tomb.jpg

Four days before Mother's Day 2005 Egypt's most beautiful mummy has been discovered.

On May 4th 2005, archaeological experts south of Cairo unveiled what they described as the most beautiful mummy ever unearthed.

However, this mummy is most likely a male.

Experts believe the mummy is likely to have been the tomb of a wealthy male.

The recently-discovered mummy with the gilded mask and blue wig dates back more than 2,300 years.

It was found near Egypt's Saqqara Pyramids on the edge of the desert, about 15 miles south of Cairo.

The unidentified mummy came from the 30th Pharaonic Egyptian dynasty under Pharaohs Nectanebo I, Teos and Nectanebo II from 381BC to 343BC.

The elaborate casket was buried by sand in a six meter / 20 foot deep shaft in the reused royal enclosure of King Teti.

Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities said the mummy was discovered almost entirely intact during excavations around the pyramids in Saqqara.

Hawass said:

The mummy is so beautiful.

The Egyptians drew maybe the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen in my life on a mummy

The mummy was adorned with multiple colours and graphic scenes depicting ancient Egyptian rituals and life.

Experts hope to use CT scanning technology to learn more about the mummy, who he was and how he lived and died.

Congratulations to the archaeologists who discovered the world's most beautiful mummy.

Inspire & Be Inspired.

Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful, "beauty dirt deep" living!
