Anthony Fedorov
For his first of two songs, Anthony Fedorov sang "Poison Ivy." He wore a red-hot shirt and red high tops -- not his best outfit.
After his performance Randy said, "That was very out-of-tune in the beginning. I'm looking for the winner, dude."
Simon told him he was very lucky to be singing two performances. Cowell called Anthony's performance "amateurish at best."
Fedorov's first performance didn't do much for us.
However, Anthony did a better job with his second performance. He sang "Incomplete" by The Backstreet Boys. His black shirt made us take him a bit more seriously. But there were a lot of pitchy notes in the mix.
Randy gave him a 5 out of 10 in comparison to the Backstreet Boys version.
Paula said he is suited for these type of songs.
Simon said he chose it very well.
Scott Savol
George Benson's "On Broadway" (1978) was an excellent choice for Scott Savol. The first ten notes of Benson's song showed not only his range but also his originality.
Savol sang, "You say I won't last too long on Broadway" as he pointed to Cowell. Last week, Cowell told "Scotty the Body" to pack his bags. Scott told Simon and his audience of thirty plus million that he is not leaving until he ends up on Broadway.
Randy complained about his few pitchy notes but that Scott had "worked it out."
Paula gave him props for having a lot of moxy.
Simon said, "You have more tricks than Houdini...That was probably your best performance."
Scott credited his wardrobe coordinator for helping him look good. For his second number he wore a black shirt and a black leather jacket along with his silver cross prominently hanging from his neck.
Savol sang a Brian McNight song called Every Time You Go Away.
Randy said, "You pulled it out, again." Paula said, "You owned it tonight. This is your best night of the performance."
Simon said "You were more flat than you were in tune. You were much better on the first song."
When host Ryan Seacrest asked Scotty what's going to happen tomorrow night, Savol responded:
I'll probably have to start thinkin' about what I'm going to sing next week.
Vonzell Solomon
Vonzell Solomon chose an Elvis Presley song written by Leiber and Stoller for her first song.
After singing "Treat Me Nice" she hoped the judges would do just that.
Two-out-of-three of them did not disappoint. You can guess who called her performance "a bit of a mess."
Randy Jackson's kudos couldn't have been nicer. He said, "I barely know this song and you made me like that song."
For her second song, Vonzell "When You Tell Me That You Love Me."
Randy said, "I'm telling you, that is a perfect vocal. Unbelievable."
Simon contested Randy's perfection comment. Cowell said, "It wasn't a perfect vocal." He said he believed she had a very off night tonight. He called her very vulnerable. And he called for her fans to come through if she's going to continue.
Bo Bice
Bo Bice sang one of the world's greatest songs as his first on Tuesday night; "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King showed off Bice's beautiful voice.
Bice sported more of a full beard this week. He wore blue jeans and a blue open-shirt and a cross.
Signs in the audience read "Bo For President" and "You Can't Spell BOdacious Without Bo!"
Randy said, "Yo, check it out man. You know what I love about you. You pick exactly the right song. You are definitely on your way dude."
Paula found no reason to critique him. She said, "We just need to enjoy you."
Simon said, "They said it all. You chose the best song by a mile."
Bo, This American Family stands by you -- after your first song and your second!
For Bice's second song he chose Los Lonely Boys' Grammy award-winning song, Heaven.
In the crowd to cheer on Bo was Jon Peter Lewis, known as "JPL" to his fans from last year.
Randy said, "You're the Captain of the Dawg Pound."
Paula said, "Tonight, you rule."
Simon said, "You had a good night tonight, actually."
The only thing that would have made his performance better was if he had sung some of the lyrics in Spanish. Perhaps he'll learn them by the time he goes into the recording studio.
Carrie Underwood Brings Chills All The Way to San Francisco from Hollywood
"Trouble" by Elvis Presley was Carrie's first song of the night. We love it when Carrie rocks out and she did not disappoint this time.
Simon said, " I absolutely totally agree what Randy said. You need to give what your fans want and that's exactly what you gave up here tonight."
With a twinkle on her eye, Carrie sang "Bless The Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts.
Randy told her he would buy that song from her. Paula called it eloquent. Simon called the song "somewhat robotic" but told Carrie that she sang it beautifully.
Here's how we net things out.
Scott did well this week and props to him.
Bo and Carrie are simply another class of singers at this point in their career and this competition.
For this one American Family, we have five votes for Bo, five votes for Carrie, three votes for Scott, two votes for Vonzell and zero votes for Anthony. Niki, who typically votes for everyone, did not vote for Anthony this week. That's bad news for Anthony.
This is our assessment of who is going home tomorrow night.
And who we believe will be moving into the Top Four or AI IV.
