American Idol IV Top Ten: Hello Bice, Fedorov, Maroulis, Robinson, Savol, Sierra, Solomon, Turner & Underwood

American.Idol.Top.11.jpg

If you missed the American Idol IV Top Eleven Repeat last night, you didn't miss much. Ryan Seacrest did not apologize on behalf of the show's producers or the sub-contracted technician hired to put up the telephone numbers who made us all tune in for an hour on Wednesday night, as well as Tuesday's performances.

One thing is for certain: American Idol loves drama. It certainly has only helped their ratings.

On Tuesday night, the show attracted 27.5 million viewers - once again winning the ratings for its time slot.

The show was in a very good position to attract another huge audience on Wednesday night. And it did.

More than 31 million votes were cast for this year's Top Eleven American Idol contestants.

For every scandal that has struck the show, it has attracted a bigger American Idol audience.

For tonight's Top Ten announcement, however, the show had a little more competition.

Fortunately, for American Idol, FOX, 19 Entertainment and the eleven AI IV finalists did not have CSI to go up against tonight.

Tonight's "Top Ten" episode did not have to face CSI because the most popular detective show in America was displaced by NCAA Basketball.

Fortunately for FOX, the Oklahoma State vs. Arizona game ended moments before American Idol proclaimed their Top Ten contestants. (Congratulations to Lute Olson and his Arizona team for making it into this year's Elite Eight.)

But first ... here are the answers to the questions we asked in yesterday's post regarding American Idol's numbers snafu:

1) What will host Ryan Seacrest say by way of explanation to the 30 million viewers who dedicated their Tuesday night to American Idol, and now have to do it all over again?

American Idol's main message: "Oops!"

Those interested in voting for Mikalah Gordon, Anwar Robinson and Jessica Sierra were given incorrect numbers to call.

It was called simply a human error.

Seacrest insisted that it was an inadvertent mistake.

2) Will the AI re-do inspire Nadia Tuner to sport her uber mohawk hairdo again?

No.

Nadia wore her trademark afro on Wednesday and Thursday night.

But she did have an explanation for, as Seacrest called it, the "Nadiahawk."

Turner said, "I wore it in honor of Mario Vasquez."

Vasquez was a Top Twelve idol who left the competition before the finals got heated.

She did not offer an explanation as to why her buddy, Mario inspired her to wear her hair this way. Nor did she explain the reasons he gave her for leaving the show.

While she wore her Mohawk well, it was a bit distracting.

Nonetheless, Nadia said she liked what she delivered.

She called it "a little reggae, a little rock, a little mohawk."

Fortunately, Nadia's hair and her off-performance did not effect her ability to make it into the Top Ten.

However, for half of tonight's show America was a little worried when she was voted into the Bottom Three.

3) Will Simon Cowell offer a repeat performance of his cheery (for him) mood? And if so, will fellow judge Paula Abdul kiss him again three times as she did last night?

No and no. Paula had no reason to kiss Simon on Wednesday night.

Simon looked peeved to be back in the theater. His comments were as surly as ever, especially when it came to his criticism towards Nadia's performance. Her strained smile was probably a cover for the tears she was shedding inside.

Fortunately, she will have next week to re-prove to us all that she is the Total Package.

4) How much more money will FOX make as the result of this snafu?
One can bet that the conspiracy theorists are all over this one.

American Idol producers insist they had no intention of forcing a "re-vote."

At least those who text messaged their vote(s) on Tuesday night were promised to be reimbursed.

Nonetheless, the show's advertisers can only be happy about the additional opportunity to reach their target audience.

And FOX has got to be tickled about the additional media attention they have gotten over the snafu.

It is also one more chance to show how powerful the most popular Reality show on television is.

To think that FOX could attract even half of the 30 million viewers they had the night before would have been a coup.

Too bad they'll had to compete on Thursday night with shows like The Apprentice and the NCAA Basketball games.

5) When will the Michael Moore movie on this incident be released?

Still waiting word back from Moore on this one.

6) Will more Americans vote in tonight's election than they did in 2000 or 2004?

Not quite.

7) Does Carrie Underwood have enough hair product left to once again achieve that "big hair" 80's look?

Carrie needed little hair product on Wednesday. Her "do" was as straight on Wednesday as it was poofy on Tuesday.

8) Will Anthony Fedorov sport the same 5 o'clock stubble as George Michael? Fedorov may have biceps, but does he have facial hair yet?

No. But Ryan Seacrest had good stubble going on Wednesday night.

Perhaps some of Seacrest's rubbed off on Fedorov.

Fedorov got the ninth most votes of the eleven contestants. While he was in the Bottom Three, he ultimately ended up being safe. And that's what really counts.

9) Will the contestants be allowed to change their choice of #1 Billboard songs? Or will we simply see the same performance they gave last night?

There were no new performances last night. American Idol fans were simply presented with the tape of the previous night's performance.

The only added commentary came from the contestants themselves along with a few more jabs from Randy and Simon.

Paula threw no kisses at Simon. Her compliments just reinforced what we had heard the night before.

10) Have Scott Savol's eyeglasses been repaired and "degreased" after he flung them onto the stage floor?

Not only was Scott wearing his glasses again last night, it looked like he was wearing the exact outfit that he wore during his performance.

Perhaps his same outfit served as a good luck charm. Or perhaps it was all the praying he did. Either way, he's safe and we'll see him back again next week.

11) Will the graphics person responsible for the numbers snafu be fired or promoted?

Only his boss knows.

12) Will Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell take off their shirts as penance for this mistake?

Sorry to say, we got no Baywatch action last night.

The Results of American Idol Meets Groundhog Day

On Thursday night, all eleven contestants sang, "He Ain't Heavy; He's My Brother."

Bo kicked off the song followed by Constantine, Carrie, Nadia, Nikko and Vonzell doing a solo intro. Anwar, Jessica and Anthony pulled it together. And Scott let it rip.

After one more song, it was truth time.

Nikko's performance on Tuesday night was called "the best of the night." "America voted and Nikko is safe," Seacrest said.

Constantine's "I Think I Love You" performance was also loved by America. He is also safe.

On Tuesday, Carrie sang one of her best performances yet. Simon was convinced she would win the entire competition and sell more records than anyone else. Carrie will be back.

"Bo has already made it," was the word from up on high. America likes the softer side.

Jessica's "Total Eclipse of The Heart" was full of Heart. As Paula said, she closed Tuesday's show "right on top."

Scott looked like he was praying before learning whether or not he was safe. His prayers were answered. We will see Scott Savol back next week.

On Tuesday, Anwar sang "Ain't Nobody." Paula called it "an incredible job." America agreed.

Vonzell's performance was called "really good." But how good was she?

Anwar, Vonzell and Anthony were not given the words "you're safe" from Ryan Seacrest before taking the contestants and his audience to a commercial break.

After the break, we learned that Anthony was to be called to the stage because he had received fewer votes than the other nine seated contestants.

He joined Nadia and Mikalah who, based on our votes last night, were placed in the Bottom Three.

Fortunately, Anthony was sent back to "the safe side of the stage."

On Tuesday night, Nadia sang "Time After Time."

Simon called it her weakest performance to-date. Sadly, America agreed.

So, tonight, The Bottom Two came down to Nadia and Mikalah.

"For one the competition is over," Seacrest said.

"For the other the dream stays alive," he said, before keeping up the suspense and sending us all to another break.

With two minutes left in the show, we learned that Nadia was safe.

Mikalah Gordon's journey ends here.

Fortunately, what we called the "Free Mikalah Gordon Show" did not disappoint.

Thank you America!

Meanwhile, check out Fantasia and Randy Jackson Friday evening, March 25th when the NACCP (the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People) awards are broadcast.

Inspire & Be Inspired.

Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful, "making the right choice" living!
