People caring about people.
This is the story of 1 million people who are praying every day for a member of our Armed Forces -- a member they have "adopted."
The United States Presidential Prayer Team's Adopt Our Troops initiative has had 158,835 troops register to be prayed for.
At the time of publication, 993,659 troops had been adopted.
Those adopted come from all walks of service: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and the National Guard.
This year alone, there have been over 6,000 adoptions.
Currently, 45 troops are waiting for adoption.
Numbers are updated every hour.
As Easter approaches, people of many traditions are gathering on Capitol Hill to pray for the President, America's troops and the country-as-a-whole.
Adopt A Soldier & His or Her Family
John Lind, President & CEO of the non-profit organization that brings Presidential Prayer Team (PPT) members together with U.S. military service people around the world said:
While our nation mourns the lives that have been lost, we are heartened by the great progress being made by the Iraqi people as they march toward democracy.
Our prayers continue to be with them and with our brave troops who sacrifice for their freedom and ours.
These brave men and women are not an abstract - they are sons, daughters, husbands, and wives.
One young man who just completed a successful tour of duty is named Ken.
Ken's mother writes:
We were informed after the elections took place that the Iraqi government did not originally intend to have elections in the area Ken's squad was serving due to serious security concerns. His commanders insisted that they could step up to the task and, eventually were given the opportunity to do so. And they did! The people were given their chance to cast a vote and the Marines gave them the protection they needed, without incident! Ken was impressed with the long lines of Iraqis waiting to exercise their newfound freedom.
We are so proud of him and the people he serves with.
And we are thrilled they are coming home!
Thank you so much for the prayers you have offered on Ken's behalf!
In a recent survey conducted by the PPT, one in four respondents out of 5,000 total said the war on terror is President Bush's most important issue in his second term.
One in five people rated Supreme Court justice appointments as the highest priority.
On the second anniversary of the liberation of Iraq, PPT invites you to adopt a troop in prayer or register a troop for adoption.

The President - who continues to travel the nation talking to Americans about Social Security reform;
National Security Advisory Stephen Hadley - who is dealing with new terror attacks being planned against America;
Michael Chertoff, his team at Homeland Security and Admiral James Loy of the Transportation Security Administration - who are seeking to keep air and rail travel safe in the United States and throughout the world;
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice - who continues her Southeast Asia trip to India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Japan, Korea and China;
Presidential Advisor Karen Hughes - who was recently appointed to be Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy in the State Department;
First Lady Laura Bush - who is working to educate children through their school music programs to have a greater appreciation for the heritage of America.
Thank you to all those who serve our country, and for those who pray for them.
Inspire & Be Inspired.
Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful "supporting our country's troops and political leaders every way we can" living!
