TV & Movie Star Actresses Who Had The Look & The Spirit
The 2005 Golden Globe Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday, January 16, 2005. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association honored achievement in both the film and television industries. A half billion people were expected to tune in from 163 countries around the world. Hundreds of movie and television stars walked down the red carpet. More than a dozen best dressed women caught our attention as the most "rugged elegant" soulful celebrities of the night.
Of these women, Annette Bening won the Golden Globe Best Actress Award for her role in Being Julia. She also won our vote for the most "rugged elegant" in look and spirit.
We loved her sign language to her kids and her acceptance speech. Both showed the soulful side of a very real, down-to-earth movie star.
In fact, Bening's celebrity status seemed secondary to the message she had to share with those who will share her trophy.
Bening said:
Thank you very much to the Hollywood Foreign Press. I love my work. I love what I do. And I appreciate this very much.
To her children, she said, "I can see your faces. And having you to share this with makes it so much sweeter.
Bening went on to say:
I want to dedicate this to my brother and my sister-in-law, Brad and Billie Bening. You are my heroes.
Billy, thank you for becoming a part of our family and for teaching us how much we love each other.
And thank you to my husband. The lunch at the pizza joint was delicious.
Other beautiful women at the awards ceremony who got our "best dressed, most soul" vote:
Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman - Golden Globe Best Supporting Actress Winner for Closer
Recently, Portman graduated from Harvard University with honors.
Upon winning the Golden Globe she addressed Closer Director, Mike Nichols.
She said, "Mike Nichols, I love you. You're the nicest, smartest, wisest, daddy, friend, rock star, everything."
Portman's speech came straight from the heart.
We loved the way she turned the attention off herself and onto her cousin when she said, "Danielle, I want to grow up and be like you some day."
Twelve other beautiful women got our vote as the most "rugged elegant," best dressed celebrities with soul at the 2005 Golden Globe Awards:
Desperate Housewives Lead Actresses, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross and Nicolette Sheridan
Felicity Huffman - Golden Globe Best Actress Nominee for Desperate Housewives
Felicity Huffman wore a subtle gold shimmery gown that naturally complimented her golden locks.
Her husband, William Macy, said to Lisa Ling in the NBC pre-show special, "Step back. Look at this beautiful woman!"
Lisa agreed Felicity looked stunningly beautiful.
She not only looked beautiful, there was a spirit about this natural beauty that conveyed a person much deeper than her physical presence.
Marcia Cross - Golden Globe Nominee, Desperate Housewives

Teri Hatcher
Terri Hatcher - Golden Globe Best Actress Winner which she earned for her role in Desperate Housewives
Hatcher wore a ruffled, silvery lilac Donna Karan dress with a low-cut back.
Her face was radiant before and after she won the coveted trophy for which two of her castmates, Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman, were also nominated.
During her acceptance speech, she thanked ABC, a network she said, "that gave me a second chance at a career when I couldn't have been a bigger has-been."
Hatcher's humility and vulnerability earned big points here at Rugged Elegance.

Not only did these beautiful women have The Look, they represent the healthy, adventuresome, soulful spirit that Rugged Elegance looks for on The Red Carpet, behind the screen and in front of it.
