What's it all about?
American-born actress Sienna Rose Miller got 2004's "Sexiest Man Alive."
She's taking law into her own hands for good: Jude Law; that is.
Miller accepted Law's proposal of marriage on December 25th 2004 in England.
The couple's spokeswoman, Ciara Parkes, said yesterday, "Jude proposed to Sienna on Christmas morning in England."
The word is that he presented her with a gold ring featuring nine diamonds set in platinum.
A date for the wedding has not yet been set.
"Both their families and friends are thrilled and of course Jude's children are, too," Parkes said.
In October 2003, after a six-year marriage and three children Law divorced British fashion designer and actress Sadie Frost, 37. In addition to a son, who was born in 1996, a daughter born in 2000 and another son born in 2002, Law has a stepson from Sadie's first marriage (1988-1997) to the Spandau Ballet British band co-leader and actor, Gary Kemp.
This will be Miller's first marriage.
Last year, Miller performed the role of Nikki in her sixth notable production called Alfie.
Little did she know that on that set she would for real fall in love with a Brit, who would propose marriage to her on Christmas Day for real.
When she was growing up, Sienna's mother, Jo Miller, ran London's Lee Strasberg's drama school.
Her British roots go deeper still. While she was born in America, Miller was raised in the U.K. and educated at Heathfield School in Ascot, Surrey.
Her role in the short-lived Keen Eddie 2002 TV series, a Moonlightingesque show, was where we first came to know and love Sienna Miller.
The British American actress turned twenty-three on December 28th.
Law turned thirty-two on December 29th.
Jude Law
In 1972, nine years before Sienna was born in New York, Jude Law was born in London. He is the son of Peter and Maggie Law, two school teachers who now run an acting school.
After joining a national touring company at the age of twelve, he pursued theater work in Europe and a British soap opera.
In 1995, he came to America where he appeared on Broadway in the play "Indiscretions".
He received a Tony nomination along with serious attention after doing a nude bathtub scene.
Actor, Jude Law came onto the Big Screen Scene in 1996 with "I Love You, I Love You, I Love You" followed by "Gattaca," "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," "The Talented Mr. Ripley," "I (Heart) Huckabees," and "Cold Mountain".
Law earned Oscar nominations for his roles in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Cold Mountain".
His screen credits also include "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow," "Closer," "The Aviator," and "A Series of Unfortunate Events" -- all released this year.
While Law has been stellar on the big screen, one of his greatest performances was in front of a live audience in New York last fall.
Law's sense of humor made light of People Magazine's Sexiest Man of 2004 award.
NBC's Saturday Night Live Oct '04 Monologue
Law poked fun at himself when he said and sang:
Thank you. Thank you very much. It's wonderful to be here in New York City. Thank you!
A lot of you may know me from my film work.
Perhaps from the (counts on his fingers) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 films I have coming out right now.
But you know I actually started in the theatre.
And hosting this show reminds me of that time in my life.
When everyone would work very long hours, stay up nights rehearsing until everything was just right. Because we loved it so much.
I remember my first opening night in a repertory theatre.
I was playing Happy in "Death of a Salesman," at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leagues.
I went to the theatre very early that night.
I remember sitting in my tiny dressing room, with a bare lightbulb hanging from the ceiling, and even though it smelled like cigarettes and stale beer I had never been happier.
As I was putting on my makeup, I looked in the mirror- I can remember this so clearly- I looked in the mirror, and I thought "I am so good looking."
I mean look at this face.
This face does not belong in a crappy little theatre in Leeds. (Law is handed a microphone).
Honestly.
[He sings]: "I took one look in the mirror, and I could clearly see that there was one perfect thing in it, and that thing was me."
You know people think it's easy going through life looking like this. It is. It's easy. [sings] "I don't need to really act, I don't need a big heart, I don't need to be nice, I don't need to be smart."
I am, that's just a bonus.
He sang:
I've made women swoon, and Matt Damon cry,
made Nicole Kidman melt when she gazed in my eyes.
My looks don't fit the common belief,
that Englishmen have big ears and, bad teeth.
You know when you're this good looking people think you're gay. I'm just English. I'm so good looking I don't even need to be funny to make people laugh.
His delivery made you love him all the more.
Jude Law and Sienna Miller
Yesterday, Law's bride-to-be said "I am the happiest girl alive".
She said she is determined to exchange vows in the presence of God.
Miller shared with her fans:
"I want a big church wedding - it's always been my dream to marry in white."
Law and Miller are the latest celebrity couple to be engaged over the holidays.
On New Year's Day, Seal and Heidi Klum announced to friends in Mexico that they plan to marry.
Congratulations Sienna & Jude, and Seal & Heidi!
