Rugged Elegant Photo of The Day: U.S. Soldier Lifts Up Iraqi Girl

re.photo.of.day.12.14.04.jpg

On Wednesday, December 15th, 2004, Reuters Photographer, Shamil Zhumatov captured this fabulous "rugged elegant" shot of a U.S. soldier lifting up an Iraqi little girl.

On the outskirts of the war-torn city of Baghdad is the town Falluja.

Thirty miles (50 kilometers) west of the city displaced Iraqi children welcome a friendly face.

The children live in a cement factory at the edge of Fallujah.

Families who fled Falluja ahead of a U.S.-led assault on guerrilla positions there last month could start going home within days despite sporadic fighting in the Iraqi city, America's top general said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, yesterday, 2,000 U.S. Soldiers in Iraq receive a 2004 Holiday gift of cheer from Robin Williams, Blake Clark, John Elway & Leeann Tweeden.

Amidst the many images of fighting in Iraq, thank you Shamil Zhumatov for capturing another side of America's presence in this land.

Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful and child-like happy living!
