As many of us Americans are busy pulling together our holiday gifts in time for next Saturday's Christmas celebration, three Americans headed to Baghdad to spread their holiday cheer to more than 2,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.
If laughter is the best medicine, the soldiers could not have asked for a better funny man than Robin Williams and the 1983 M*A*S*H 2nd MP, Blake Clark as gifts.
And while the Twelve Days of Christmas calls for five gold rings, John Elway, former NFL quarterback, at least has two of them along with a hall-of-fame arm worth a similar weight to wave in honor of the troops.
And then there is Leeann Tweeden.
The model sportscaster brought natural beauty and a great appreciation to those at Camp Liberty who are in the amidst of an ugly war and rarely see a beautiful face other than pictures of family and loved ones from home.

On Tuesday, December 14th, the four soulful stars landed in Baghdad along with General Richard Myers, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The Good Morning Vietnam star arrived by military helicopter with his "Good Morning!" shtick as a way of bringing a moment of relief to the day-to-day grind of war.
Comedian Robin Williams entertained the VIP soldiers which included the 1st Cavalry Division based in Fort Hood, Texas, the 256th Brigade of the Louisiana National Guard, and the 2nd Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Drum, New York.
The award-winning actor and comedian, sporting a "Joker 69" hat, posed for photographs with the troops. Clark, who was in the television hit "Home Improvement" and recently appeared in the Adam Sandler film "50 First Dates," also took photos, signed autographs and shook hands with the soldiers.
"I know we in America wouldn't have the life we have if it wasn't for people like you," said Leeann Tweeden, who visited Baghdad last year with Williams for a pre-Christmas event organized by the United Service Organizations (USO).
The USO is a nonprofit charity organization established before World War II to boost morale, provide welfare and deliver recreational services for American troops.

During Tweeden's third trip to Iraq and sixth USO tour, she added:
We’re here to bring a little piece of home to you.
My father served in the Air Force during Vietnam, and I grew up in a household where I was very proud to be an American.
I am proud and honored to come over here and bring you a little bit of entertainment and say 'thank you.'
Former Denver Broncos great Elway said about making the high security trip, "Once my kids told me that it'd be a great idea, I knew it was the right thing."
The NFL legend and Super Bowl champion offered, as he showed off his trademark quarterback skills by tossing 50 autographed mini-footballs into the crowd of clambering soldiers:
I'm not funny, I'm not pretty, but I can sure throw a ball.
General Meyers said to the troops, "We’re here to give you a nice break in the routine and to thank you for what you are doing. These folks with me could be anywhere on the planet today, but that they chose to be here today with you."
Williams closed the show by saying, "I'm here from Hollywood to thank you for what you are doing. Please be careful here, stay safe and have a Merry Christmas."
"A visit like this just makes it a bit better here," said Master Sgt. Jeannie Helms, of the 379th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron. Sergeant Helms, a Denver native, had her hometown hero sign a football for her. "The fact that they are willing to leave their families during the holidays like this is just great."
"I loved it," said Tech. Sgt. Jude Harper, of the 332nd Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. "It’s great that they come all the way over here to show their support for us."
"It gets us away from the chaos," said Staff Sgt. Eric Anderson, 32, of Chattanooga.
"This was a total morale booster," said Army Sgt. Jolynn Gibson, of the 81st Brigade. "The whole thing was great and Robin Williams was just hilarious."
Thank you Robin, Blake, John and Leeann for making the dangerous but worthwhile trip to Baghdad.
Your presence was a present from all Americans who wish they could offer a similar expression of gratitude.
If I could offer a gift to pump up the troops in Iraq, I would give them each a copy of Kruder & Dorfmeister's The K&D Sessions CD.
Specifically, my gift would be a song on this album called Rollin Da Chrome."
Warning: It is not for children or the faint of heart.
It is for those who want to get pumped up for a game, before going into battle, or upon taking on any type of intense competition.
The song was originally written by the Aphrodelics and called Rollin' On Chrome. It is available to purchase individually on iTunes.
Or through The Rugged Elegance World Marketplace as part of the Aphrodelics' On The Rise CD.
However, if I was a soldier, football player, comedian or sportscaster getting ready to put her game face on, I'd get the most pumped up by Kruder & Dorfmeister's version.

I have often thought about sending a copy of the CD or track to President Bush with the recommendation that he make it his theme song for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Until today, I always wondered if the song was originally inspired by Todd Beamer's statement on September 11th, as he helped take down the terrorists. The plane, United Airlines Flight 93, which might have hit Washington, was diverted after Beamer sacrificed his life to save thousands of others on the ground. His last public words served as an inspiration to me when I sold the first company I built...the most painful experience of my life, but nothing compared to Beamer losing his life and leaving behind a wife, two sons, and a daughter on the way.
These simple yet powerful, heroic words were:
"Are you guys ready? Let's roll!
Upon doing research for this post, I realized that the Aphrodelics wrote Rollin' In Chrome in the late '90's. Beamer made this statement the day he died on September 11, 2001. Perhaps it was Todd Beamer who was inspired by the Aphrodelics. Who knows?

The point is: The soldiers in Iraq and at home in America preparing to be deployed R-O-C-K. Hopefully the "Let's Roll!" lyrics will pump you up and anyone else getting ready to put on their Game Face.
Thank you for your commitment to our country, your willingness to put your life on the line for us while your family is at home waiting for your return. God bless every one of you.
God bless Robin Williams, Blake Clark, John Elway, Leeaan Tweeden and the USO who coordinated their trip!

Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful and "Let's Roll!" living, every day!
