While America was delivering turkey sandwiches to their holiday guests, actress, Julia Fiona Roberts and cinematographer, Danny Moder were preparing to deliver an even more delicious gift for which their families will be grateful, forever. At around 3am on Sunday morning, November 28th 2004, Roberts and her husband, Moder became parents to a baby boy named Phinnaeus Walter Moder and a little girl named Hazel Patricia Moder.
The babies arrived at 36 weeks and were delivered by C-section.
They weighed just over 5 pounds each.
Twins run in Roberts' family, including her great-grandmother and a pair of cousins. However, Julia did not learn this until after she was pregnant.
Walter is Julia's father's name. Hazel is the color of Julia's eyes.
In the 2002 crime drama Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, directed by George Clooney, Roberts played the role of Patricia Watson. We do not know if this influenced their decision in naming their daughter Patricia. Nor do we know how they came up with "Phinnaeus" as the name for their son. However, Rugged Elegance is delighted to hear that Mama Julia and children are healthy.
Roberts, who was due in January, delivered the twins in a Los Angeles hospital.
The Oscar-winning actress experienced early contractions last month, the day she planned to go to her third baby shower.
Instead, her husband took her to the hospital.
Beginning Saturday, October 23rd, she was encouraged by her doctor to remain on bed-rest.
Roberts' publicist, Marcy Engelman, told the Associated Press on Sunday that "she is rested and happy and hoping to go home in the next few days." Engelman added, "mother and babies are doing great." Hopefully dad too!
The twins are Roberts' and Moder's first children. They were born exactly one month after Julia's birthday. On October 28th, Julia turned 37. Moder is 35.
Last Tuesday, Roberts' TV-Movie production based on Matel's American Girls Samantha & Nellie Dolls was aired for the first time.
Earlier this month, Roberts was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
The thirty-seven year-old, actress and producer is ranked #1 in "Hollywood Power" and #12 in earnings on Forbes magazine's 'Power 100' list. In 2001, she received a "Best Actress" Oscar for her role in Erin Brockovich. She has been married to her second husband, Danny Moder, since July 4, 2002. (Previously -- June 25, 1993 - March 22, 1995 -- she was married to singer, Lyle Lovett, with whom she remains close friends.)
In her first exclusive interview since the world learned that she was going to be a mom, the Oscar-winning actress Roberts appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show. During the program, which aired at the beginning of November, Roberts shared her pregnancy experience with her fans and pitched the upcoming release of her two new films.
"Ocean's Twelve", "Closer" Star Gets Closer with Oprah Amidst a Sea of Fans
Ocean's Twelve, the first sequel Roberts has ever made, was directed by Steven Soderbergh. The movie co-stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck, Peter Fonda, Elliott Gould, and Bruce Willis. In 2002, Willis, was the only movie star to attend Roberts and Moder's wedding at the couple's ranch in Taos, New Mexico.
Ocean's Twelve (Rated PG-13) appears in theaters nationwide on December 10, 2004.

Closer was directed by "the one-and-only" Mike Nichols, and co-stars Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen, who played the role of Dan in the original stage production.
Closer, which is rated "R," opens this Friday, December 3rd.
Appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show
On Oprah, Julia apologized to a mostly female audience for not throwing up at all during her pregnancy, although she laughed when she admitted to having hormonal mood swings.
When asked "How does it feel to be carrying twins?" she responded, "I feel like it's a classic overachieving."
Admitting that she ate "nearly without pause," during her pregnancy, Julia credited the combination of happiness and genetics for staying so trim.
While she had told people in the grocery store what the sex(es) of the baby, she wanted to check with her husband, Danny before telling Oprah's audience.
A message on the teleprompter came in five minutes later which said:
(DANNY SAYS IT'S OKAY TO SAY WHAT THE BABIES ARE)
With this blessing, she shared with Oprah's world that she and Danny were expecting "one of each."
Julia said, "This is such a momentous moment. Let's just pretend we're at Sid's Market," to which she announced with pride, "we are blessed to be having a little boy and a little girl."
To which Oprah responded, "A boy and a girl! ... that is overachieving."
Julia told the audience she sings to the babies and talks to them. In particular, she sings a lot of Joni Mitchell and Dave Matthews to them.
In a silly tone but serious subject, Julia admitted to being the more nervous parent-to-be. She said, "What if I didn't know that I wasn't supposed to feed the babies honey in their first year of life" -- because of the bacteria?! Or that as long as she is pregnant she is not supposed to eat peanuts. "What if I didn't know that?" she asked rhetorically.

Photographs from the book From Conception To Birth were shown to illustrate what the babies looked like at the time the show was taped.
At seven months along, already the babies are 12 inches long. They weigh approximately 1 lb. Their toenails are formed and they are starting to hear.
Closer
In "the one-and-only" Mike Nichols' next edgy, provocative and thought-provoking film, Closer, Julia is part of a cast that will spark a lot of talk in the bedroom. The film also stars Clive Owen, Jude Law, Natalie Portman.
Directed by Mike Nichols, Julia calls the movie "a beautiful work of architecture."
Julia said, "It's intense, the movie. And as soon as you think, God, this is so intense, then it's funny and it's a release. But it's very true to these complicated relationships played out by Clive Owen, who, I have to say -- not to take away from the rest of us and all of our hard work -- Clive Owen kind of steals this movie. He really does."
Julia is in good company with her Closer co-stars. Natalie Portman was nominated last month as one of this year's favorite leading ladies by the People's Choice awards. And Jude Law was nominated as one of this year's favorite leading men, as well as "The Most Sexy Man Alive" by People Magazine.
Meanwhile, Julia is as hot as ever too. Julia Roberts was nominated for this year's People's Choice Award along with Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Charlize Theron and Reese Witherspoon.
In partnership with Entertainment Weekly, the 31st People's Choice Awards will air on CBS, Sunday, January 9th, 2005 at 9pm (Live ET/Delayed PT).

Natalie Portman and Clive Owen came on The Oprah Winfrey Show to help pitch their film together.
Owen not only raved about Closer he talked about what a gift it was to work with such a talented group of actors, and in particular, Julia Roberts.
Owen said:
The very special ones are the ones that make it look so easy.
It's really easy to take that for granted. To be that good and that confident in front of the camera working with the lady here. It's truly impressive when you see her that close-up. You go wow; that's why Julia Roberts is the biggest actress in the world.
Oprah added: "She's America's sweetheart."
The father of two children, Clive had no advice to offer Julia. "None at all," he said.
Actress Debra Messing of Will and Grace, however, offered Julia some advice and encouragement in preparation for the day her babies are born. In a pre-taped message, she said that she and her husband had picked out the song from their wedding for the moment their child was born.
Debra told her she was lucky to have two boobs because she said, "It's all about the boob. Boob. Boob. Boob."
Mom to mom, she said, "I hope that your two gifts fill you with as much love and light and joy as my baby brought me."
On a recent "sleep-over" at Oprah's house, Oprah learned that Julia and Danny, until now, have done all their own cooking and cleaning. However, Julia admitted that cleaning toilets has gotten to be a bit of a challenge. Oprah encouraged her to get some help. Julia, right on cue, asked, "Will you help me? Will you help clean my toilets?' Oprah offered to send her somebody to which they both laughed.
Ray Romano on the set of Everyone Loves Raymond shared a personal home video with Julia and Oprah's audience.
He has identical twins which he says saves on photographs. He takes one photo, shows them to his friends and says, "Here's my little boy ... and I have another one just like him."
Romano had some sage advice to offer Julia.
He said: "From now until they are born, I want you to just sleep and have sex because those things are going away."
He encouraged them to not do the cute name thing. I have a Gregory and Shmegory.
To keep in shape, he showed a videotape of use his kids as weights.
In closing, Romano said "To you I would say 'God bless, but He already has."
Roberts has not only been blessed with a handsome husband and two beautiful children-to-be, she has acted with some of Hollywood's hottest male celebrities.
Oprah asked Julia to come up with one word to define some of her leading co-stars.
This is what Julia said:
Brad Pitt: "Sunshine. He is sunshine, a sunny disposition. And his wife, moonshine."
Matt Damon: "He is the sweetest. You just want him to the be your son. He is just so sweet.
George Clooney: "Hilarious. He is the master joker, 24 hours a day."
Richard Gere: "Fabulous. Richard is just classic."
Denzel Washington: "My favorite. No, not my favorite. I can't pick a favorite. But if I was forced to pick a favorite I'd pick Denzel."
Mel Gibson: "Love Mel. Sometimes I forget that he's my friend because I look at him with such awe and he's achieved so much of late and really has become such a force, and stood up for what he believed in. And he is one of the most, deeply thoughtful people. I mean don't get me wrong. He's a jokster. He gave me a rat as a gift once. Beautifully presented. It was dead, stuffed."
Clive Owen: "Clive makes me laugh so hard. And he made me feel so safe [making Closer]."
Jude Law: "Terrific. He works so hard. It is always so encouraging when you see people that try so hard to achieve what I'm trying to achieve. And it is such a comfort to me when I see someone who I really respect like Jude, who is so talented. And I see him struggle and put forth that effort. And I think, we can do it together."
Roberts, who divides her time among homes in Los Angeles, New York and Taos, New Mexico, has said that she plans on taking some down time from her show-biz career to focus on her children before reuniting with Nichols for a romantic comedy called Seven-Year Switch.
This month, a 9000 year-old female skeleton excavated in Bulgaria was called by the archaeologists "Julia Roberts" because of the perfect teeth it had. They said that the woman would have had a perfect smile - just like the actress.
Do you suppose this 9000 year-old woman was as lucky as the Julia Roberts we know today?
Congratulations Julia, Danny and family! Welcome to parenthood. You're going to absolutely love it.
Thank you Oprah for sharing Julia and the joys of motherhood with your fans before Phinnaeus and Hazel's birth.
Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful and doubly grateful living!
