"Darkchild" Jerkins will present a musical extravaganza headlined by Stephen Bishop, Joy Enriquez, Jamia Simone Nash and additional surprise performers.
Jerkins is internationally recognized as a musical "Hitmaker," having amassed over 160 million record sales worldwide while recording with some of today's top artists including Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, N'SYNC, Madonna, Mary J. Blige, Pattie LaBelle, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Brandy, Enrique Iglesias, and Jessica Simpson. His present collaboration with Destiny's Child, "Lose My Breath," is currently rising up the charts.
"We feel very fortunate to have Rodney create a one-of-a-kind performance for the Wildlife WayStation and our Safari Brunch," said philanthropist Robert H. "Bob" Lorsch, Chairman of the Board of the Wildlife WayStation. "Stephen, Joy and Jamia are incredible performers, and we know that the show they will put on will be a great complement to a tremendous day for our facility and all who attend."
In addition to the star power on stage during the Music Fest, the event will host a number of additional celebrity supporters of the WayStation cause. Jillian Barberie, Michael Clarke Duncan, Mick Fleetwood, Dennis Hopper, Bernie Kopell, Constance Marie, Courtney Peldon, Stefanie Powers, Nicollette Sheridan, Gene Simmons, Betty White and more are expected to attend.
Stephen Bishop is a renowned songwriter and performer, having penned hits for superstars such as Phil Collins, Eric Clapton and Barbra Streisand, among others. A two-time Grammy nominee for songwriting, Bishop is also an outstanding performer. He has released multiple albums that have gone Gold and wrote and performed hit songs for a number of popular films, including "Separate Lives" from "White Nights," for which he received an Oscar nomination, "Animal House," and "It Might Be You" from "Tootsie."
Joy Enriquez has been in the spotlight for much of her life, beginning with an 11-week stint as the winning female performer on Star Search at the age of 15. Following up on her success there, Enriquez has gone on to recording and acting success. She performed the Golden Globe(R) nominated hit from the film "Anna and the King" and teamed with Latin star Carlos Ponce on the love song "Bella Notte" from the Disney animated film "Lady and the Tramp II" before striking gold with her self-titled debut album "Joy Enriquez." While continuing to record, Enriquez became a series regular on the television hit "7th Heaven" and appeared in a number of television shows and movies. She is also a national spokesperson for L'Oreal and the Candies Foundation.
Though only 8-years old, Jamia Simone Nash is no stranger to the spotlight. The daughter of gospel singers, Nash began her career at 2-years old and has gone on to garner rave reviews through performances on "The Tonight Show," "Good Morning America" (a duet with Alicia Keys) and at the legendary Apollo Theatre, where she wowed the live and syndicated television viewing audiences with a stirring performance of the Michael Jackson classic "Who's Loving You." Nash has also appeared in numerous television series, including "My Wife and Kids," "7th Heaven" and "Half and Half," in addition to performing two numbers on the "2003 Soul Train Christmas Starfest."
At 3pm on Saturday, Alfred Nobel's Great Grandnephew, Dr. Michael Nobel, will present the "Paws of Fame" award to international film star, Sharon Stone.
One of Stone's next big projects, now that the movie's funding has been secured, will be the sequel to Basic Instinct. Her other upcoming films include Gold Circle's Cougars, a romantic comedy about a 40ish woman who falls for a younger man, which will shoot next year. She will also appear in Nick Cassavetes' Alpha Dog. (Interesting that two of her next three projects have an animal in their title.)
Also singled out on Saturday will be renowned environmentalist and paleo-anthropologist Dr. Richard Leakey who will receive an International Lifetime Achievement Award.
Veterinary Pet Insurance founder Dr. Jack Stephens will receive the 2004 Humanitarian Award. And the Rebecca Solomon Family Foundation will receive the Benefactor Award.
In addition to the honorees, celebrities and supporters, one of the WayStation's most popular residents, Montana, an 8-year old White Tiger, will be in attendance to greet the guests, anticipated to be as many as 9,000.
Over the past 10 years, the Safari Brunch has raised meaningful funds that have allowed The WayStation to complete necessary enhancements that benefit its animal residents, including a new Chimp Village, which opened approximately a year ago, as well as improvements that were necessary to having its USDA and California Department of Fish and Game licenses reinstated.
