The beauty on the ground was matched equally by the beauty in the sky. As the sun set on Tuesday evening over the couple and their guests a spectacular array of colors was painted across the ocean vista.
The Barbados Daily Nation quoted unidentified sources as saying that the event cost $3 million. Part of the cost incurred was in creating the privacy desired by the two families. Sheets of plywood were put up by the resort. And a crane hoisted large plants to try to block views of the event.
Woods' booked the only helicopter charter company on the island, in order to prevent journalists and photographers from disturbing their celebration.
In addition, Tiger rented out the entire hotel, which has 112 luxury rooms and suites with rates ranging from $700 to $8,000 a night, according to a hotel source.
Sandy Lane at St. James is owned by Irishmen J.P. McManus and Dermot Desmond, who reportedly are friends of Woods. The resort has hosted celebrities such as tennis star Serena Williams and fashion designer Donatella Versace. It is located on the western coast of the island of Barbados beside the sparkling waters of the Caribbean Sea. Flying time from New York is 4 1/2 hours.
Michael Jordan Arrives for Tiger & Elin's Wedding
Of the over 120 guests in attendance: Oprah Winfrey, NBA stars Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley, Microsoft's Bill Gates and fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger made their way to the ritzy resort overlooking the Caribbean to share Tiger and Elin's wedding celebration.
Woods' father, Earl, arrived in a silver Rolls-Royce almost three hours before the ceremony. At the reception, witnesses said he cried after giving a speech and toast to his son and new daughter-in-law.
Nordegren's mother, Swedish immigration minister Barbro Holmberg had left the Scandinavian country and was not expected back before Monday, her spokesman said.
Elin's identical twin, Josefin, and their brother, Thomas were also present for the sunset ceremony.
The rock group Hootie and the Blowfish performed under a tent at the "19th hole," a garden area of the Green Monkey golf course, witnesses said, before fireworks lit up the night along Barbados' west coast.
"Elin and Tiger want to keep this as a family thing," the bride's father, Thomas Nordegren, told The Associated Press by phone on Wednesday from the posh Barbados resort that hosted the ceremony. "I'm sorry I can't give you any more information."
Nordegren met Woods three years ago at the British Open, when she was working as a nanny for Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik.
Parnevik, who introduced the couple, skipped the wedding to play in this week's Michelin Championship in Las Vegas.
Woods asked Nordegren to marry him last December during a sunset walk at a game reserve in South Africa, where he was playing in the Presidents Cup.
On Sunday, Woods played in the American Express Championship at the Mount Juliet Golf Course in Thomastown, Ireland. He finished ninth.
The couple is expected to honeymoon on board the yacht which Woods hired for two weeks.
Tiger and Elin have been dividing their time between California and Florida while not on our tour.
