Yesterday, Scottish fashion designer / print master, Jonathan Saunders presented his Spring-Summer 2005 collections at London Fashion Week.
Earlier this month in Australia, Miss Universe, Jennifer Hawkins made it trendy, without intention, to show off one's thong and backside on the runway.
Saunders has designed a see-through skirt that requires you first buy only the best thong to go with it. He obviously is serving a "niche" market for women who have the toosh.
The 26-year-old designer has quite a way of giving his models strength without losing their femininity. After expertly blended all the textures of the season, he stole the show with his reinterpretation of Bauhaus style.
His printed clothes are considered close to an art form.
"I don't want to become a big global brand. These dresses are so expensive to produce, it just doesn't make sense," he said.
His collections have been scooped up by prime international stores since he burst onto the scene in 2003. They include:
Harrods in London
Harvey Nichols, Liberty, Selfridges, Matches. Maria Luisa and Galeries Lafayette in Paris
Henri Bendel in New York
Louis in Boston
This up-and-coming New Generation talent's next move:
Interior design.
London Fashion Week (September 12-23) comprises 45 shows attracting 4,500 visitors.
About Jonathan Saunders
Winning New Generation for the third time Saunders has become a highlight on the LFW schedule for his stunning intricately engineered graphic prints in kaleidoscopic colour. Each piece in his collections has a specifically designed print to work with the shape rather than vice-versa. This results in clean silhouettes - shapely and strictly tailored last season – with dramatic emphasis made by the print placement.
He uses up to twenty silk screens to create each design mixing matte and shine surfaces This season he is introducing a full swimwear range.
Saunders went from Glasgow School of Art to Central St. Martin’s, graduating with an MA in Printed Textiles in 2002 which subsequently won him the Lancome Colour Award. Earlier this year he was invited to show at Moscow Fashion Week. Saunders continues to consult for some of the largest and most obvious print fashion houses in Europe.
Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful and revealed assets living!
