Two-Week-Old Twin Gorillas with Zookeeper
AFP Photographer Cesar Rangel captured this photograph of two sleeping twin gorillas with a zookeeper from the Barcelona Zoo. Their mother, Kena, gave birth to the twins on August 26th, 2004.
The male and female are a rarity as gorillas rarely have more than one baby at a time.
Their grandfather, Snowflake, is the world's only known albino gorilla.
This past May, a new "lodge" was opened at the Zoo, as part of a permanent exhibition about the world of gorillas and the conservation problems facing this endangered species. The zoo's aim, in particular, is to contribute to raising awareness and knowledge of the word of gorillas.

Meanwhile, Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, another rare breed, announced on September 1st that production is underway on his latest film: a remake of the 1933 King Kong classic.
Jackson said, "It's great to be able to finally get the film made. It's a film which I've loved ever since I was a child. It really inspired me to want to become a filmmaker."
Jackson attempted to make the film at the age of 13 using a cardboard model of the Empire State Building. Ever since then, it has been a passion of his to bring the world's best known gorilla back to life. With a $200 million budget, they should be able to go ape.
"We're really just attempting to make a wonderful, mysterious adventure film," the triple Academy award-winning director told reporters. "At the end of the day it's about gorillas, it's about dinosaurs and lost islands. Our King Kong is very battered, he's very ancient, he's the last of his particular race on the island. He did have a mother and father but they're now dead and there are no more after him. He's the final survivor and he's a very old gorilla."

The "Re-Makers" of King Kong
The American Film Institute ranked the original as among the 50 best films of the century. Surely Peter Jackson has what it takes to rival the late "Eighth Wonder of the World" filmmakers, Ernest B. Schoedsack & Merian C. Cooper.
