Recently, the University of Belfast did research to study the effect of different types of music on fifty dogs. They learned that heavy metal songs caused dogs to growl while classical music calmed them down. Yesterday, Reuters reported that this knowledge inspired a Netherlands-based music distributor called LindeTree to create a CD for pets using nature sounds with music.
"Piano music with twittering birds and murmuring water apparently has a soothing effect on dogs," said a spokesman for LindeTree, the company marketing the new age CD called Dog Lounge.
"The owner can put it on whenever he leaves the house or needs some peace of mind."
Two CDs available in the states include: Relaxation Music For Dogs and Cats and While You Are Gone.
Relaxation was produced last year by Janet Marlow Music. The environmental CD offers two tracks: Soothing Music and Calming Music.
While You Are Gone: Music Pets Love is a collection of instrumental music mixed with short stories designed for pets. The CD was created by a professional composer experiencing problems with his own pet who suffered from separation anxiety...until he discovered the benefits of music. The CD offers over one hour of relaxing music laced with soft animal sounds to create a peaceful environment for pets who are left alone or when the owner needs quiet time.
Song titles include: Pet Reflections, Dreams, Wet Kisses, New Leash on Life, On The Move, Peaceful Slumber, Unexpected Treasures, Basking in the Sun, Unconditional Love, Favorite Spot and Coming Home.
Here's to healthy, adventuresome, soulful and purrrfect living!
