World Cup Hockey Results: U.S. Defeats Slovakia 3-1 for First Victory

The United States' World Cup Hockey team has won their first game against Slovakia -- 3-1. America's Bryan Smolinski, Jason Blake and Bill Guerin made the goals which were countered only once by Slovakia's Ladislav Nagy. The U.S. had a 39-17 shots advantage. After losing to Canada and Russia, this was by far their best effort of the tournament. This final game in the North American pool will put the U.S. in either the second or third seed in the quarterfinals.

Russia vs. Canada in Toronto

Slovakia vs. Russia in Toronto

All teams advance to the quarter-finals to be played Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The final championship will take place in Toronto on Tuesday, September 14th. The top European and the top U.S. team can be seen on ESPN2.
