Jean-Paul Gaultier Wedding Dress
In Paris this afternoon, French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier showed off one of his daring wedding gowns from his Autumn/Winter 2004/2005 collection. Traditionally, a couture show finishes with a wedding gown. However, this one was anything but traditional. Gaultier's "bride" wore a dress that was entirely backless, save for a white satin thong.
At this year's haute couture fashion show, Gaultier was one of only nine of the most feted designers who presented their collections in Paris.

The other eight designers included: Chanel, Christian Dior, Christian Lacroix, Jean-Louis Scherrer, Dominique Sirop, Torrente, the Italian designer Valentino and for the last time, seventy-eight year-old Japanese fashion designer, Hanae Mori.

New York-based designer Ralph Rucci and Lebanon's Elie Saab offered their collections, separately.

The man, who was responsible for the pointy bras Madonna wore during her Blonde Ambition Tour, is now also responsible for Hermes' designs.
Hermes has a 35% stake in Gaultier's work.
Unfortunately, handcrafted luxury gowns are less and less en vogue, these days. Haute couture by definition means "high sewing or dress making." Those who demand high dressmakers equal perhaps 200 women in the world.
French actress Catherine Deneuve, who has switched her allegiance to Gaultier since the retirement of legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent, said the survival of couture was crucial to France's cultural heritage.
Celebrities in Paris willing to take a look this week included: Juliette Binoche, Elizabeth Hurley and her fiance, Arun Nayer, Val Kilmer, Donald Trump's fiancee, Melania Knauss and his ex-wife Ivana; Diane Kruger; Lisa-Marie Presley's teenage daughter, Riley Keogh; and Oprah Winfrey.
So who would be so daring to wear Gaultier's hat, boots, gloves and gown? Nicole Kidman? Cameron Diaz? Wimbledon champion, Maria Sharapova? Perhaps a bride from China or India?
Who would you like to see? Who could afford it?
Inspire & Be Inspired.
