The Demikini: The Backless, Strapless Bikini

Leave it to the Brits to come up with an innovative solution to those pesky bikini tan lines.

The Demikini is the brainchild of Jill Silver, a former English teacher from Altrincham, England. Silver came up with the idea a few years ago while vacationing in Majorca, Spain five years ago. "I felt that sunbathing could be a real chore and that I was always working hard to eliminate the strap marks and lines from the day before," said Silver. "I wanted an even tan, with no fastening and unfastening, positioning and re-positioning of ties and straps."

The Demikini is held in place by an adhesive gel, which holds the top in place under the arms. The gel was originally developed for use in surgery. "The gel feels very comfortable and cooling and lets the wearer jump and bounce around as much as they want," Silver said.

Because the gel loses its sticking power in water, swimming in the Demikini is not advised.

You can order the Demikini online from Figleaves. The Demikini bikini top retails for $42, while the matching bikini bottom will set you back another $16.
