Shadowmancer
Shadowmancer, a British best-seller that has been dubbed "The Christian Harry Potter," is now hitting the bookshelves here in the United States.
Written by Rev. G.P. (Graham) Taylor, Shadowmancer is a classic parable of good versus evil with religious miracles replacing the magic of Harry Potter.
The book, set in the 18th century, is being marketed at children ages 12 and up. A bit of parental guidance: the level of violence and death is similar to that found in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
The British author, Taylor, shares similarities with J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books who was a down-trodden single mother whose initial "Harry Potter" book was rejected by 44 publishers.
Taylor, a former vicar and police officer, had to sell his Harley-Davidson to self-publish Shadowmancer after publishers rejected the tale. After word of mouth and sales spread, Taylor was eventually signed by British publisher Faber & Faber.
To date, more than 330,000 have been sold in the United Kingdom. The faith the Vicar demonstrated by selling his Harley has obviously been rewarded many-fold.
