Jon Peter Lewis
Last night's American Idol movie show results are in. 24 million calls and text were counted. Tru Calling's Jason Priestley was in the house to sing Fantasia's and La Toya's praises. "I think both of them were awesome," he said. However, America voted. And it decided to give the "death sentence" this week to Jailhouse Rock singer, Jon Peter Lewis.
Ryan Seacrest said it well, "JPL, man are we going to miss you dancin' around on this stage."
The other two "Bottom Three" contestants, Diana DeGarmo and John Stevens are safe, as are Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, George Huff, LaToya London and Jasmine Trias.
"It's been great," JPL said to Ryan.
Jon Peter Lewis' Tribute
First introduced to the nation as a pen salesman, JPL proved he was much, much geekier than that -- in a good way. Quentin Tarantino said, "You are the geekiest rock singer since Freddy and The Dreamers."
Before the curtain came down, Jon Peter Lewis said:
This experience has been really amazing. I know I've always really liked music and always dreamed of maybe pursuing it. And I've been given an opportunity to do that -- to fulfill a dream.
I can do more than sell a pen.
Each step of the way, it's gotten more serious. So, I've really decided I'm going to be more serious about music. I'm going to really work hard in being more precise about what I do. To get approval from the country has been really gratifying.
I'm really grateful for this whole thing -- that people have appreciated what I've done; that's a really cool feeling.
I've learned a lot about myself. I've learned a lot about what my limitations are.
It's an amazing thing that American Idol does for people.
It's an amazing thing that's been done for me.
Ryan closed out the show by saying, "We will never forget JPL on American Idol."
All we can say is that "justice has not been served."
For those whose hearts were won over by JPL, check out photos, video clips, interviews and quick facts at IdolonFox.com regarding the 24 year-old, Rexburg, Idaho Top Eight Idol finalist who devoted two years of his life to loving, serving, and teaching people in Barcelona, Spain, and who started singing when he was three.
JPL, you got robbed, man. Never in The Bottom Three and then zing, you're gone? Perhaps your fans thought you were safe, so they called in their second favorite last night. Or they just couldn't get through. The word on the street is that many of those who tried to vote for you got a message that your # was invalid. Just like Matt Rogers, you're at least free that much sooner to start addressing all the offers coming your way so you can begin recording your first CD. Hmm? English or Spanish version?? Whichever comes out first, we look forward to not only buying it, we look forward to taking our girls (two of your best fans) to your first live concert!
Thanks for rockin' this house!!
So, it's down to: Fantasia Barrino, Diana DeGarmo, Jennifer Hudson, George Huff, LaToya London, John Stevens and Jasmine Trias.
Up next week for the remaining contestants: the music of Barry Manilow.
