Yahoo! News:

After four years of extensive, top-secret testing on three continents, integrating computer technology used in Hollywood blockbusters, Formula One auto racing and America's Cup yachting victories, Speedo says it has developed the world's fastest swimsuit.

Called the Fastskin FSII, or FSII for short, it is expected to be worn by most of the top swimmers on the U.S. Olympic team at the Athens Games this summer, including phenom Michael Phelps.

...

According to Speedo, FSII, which is made in several variations from a traditional-style swimsuit to a full-body suit with gender-specific and stroke-specific models, increases a swimmer's speed in the water by reducing drag by 4%.

And that could mean the difference between a gold medal and fourth place, Phelps says.

Not only is it fast, it also makes a fasion statement!

When Jennifer was promoting the America's Cup in Australia in 1987, 3M created a "sharkskin" material that was applied to the Dennis Conner's winning boat to make it faster. It's fascinating to see the same technology applied to these new Speedo FastSkin suits.
