Bethany Hamilton, the thirteen year-old champion surfer who lost her left arm to a shark while surfing.

Paul Newman, who, with his friend A.E. Hatcher, created "Newman's Own," a company which has donated over $150 million to charity over the past 21 years.

Neil Parry, the San Jose State football player, who came back to play college football after having his right leg amputated.

Captain Sigurdur Petursso, an Icelandic fishing captain who grabbed and killed a 660-pound shark with his bare hands as it swam in shallow water toward his crew.

Annika Sorenstam, who at 33 was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame this past fall.

Joss Stone, the sixteen year-old blonde soul-singer from England, who knocked our socks off with an amazing mix of talent and humility.

Dr. Carlo Urbani, the Italian physician who is heralded for helping contain SARS outbreak in Vietnam while unfortunately contracting and then dying from the disease himself.
