Television Review: "Keen Eddie"

keen.eddie.pic.jpg
"Keen Eddie" FOX, Tuesday 9pm (Eastern/Pacific), 8pm (Central)

"Keen Eddie" is one of the freshest shows that we've seen in quite some time. Eddie Arlette, played by Mark Valley, is a down-on-his-luck NYPD detective, is responsible for a drug bust going bad and is banished to London to clean the mess.

"Keen Eddie" is difficult to categorize. I've heard some people call it a "dramedy," but I would call it a sophisticated cop comedy. "Eddie" incorporates some of the feel of "Ally McBeal," with its array of storytelling devices such as flashbacks and flashforwards.

What sets "Keen Eddie" apart is the comic tension between Eddie's shoot-from-the-hip, casual American stye with the much more formal British style. The show's music is great and Eddie's relationship with his flat mate, Fiona Bickerton -- played by Sienna Miller, is a hoot.

"Keen Eddie" is definitely worth a look.

P.S. Here are some other reviews of "Keen Eddie:"

New York Times:

Fox calls it an "action dramedy," and it is similar to the 1980's show "Moonlighting," which starred Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd as private detectives. Each episode of "Keen Eddie" has a new case that must be solved (some are farcical, others not), but its real appeal is the banter and chemistry between the principals.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer

And as it turns out, "Keen Eddie" is worth your time. The hourlong dramatic comedy has heart, randy humor, mystery twists and allusions to a little cherchez la femme intrigue that will weave through its 13-episode run.
